Holiday Spirits and upcoming bumps in the night…

Good morning! I’m back! After what seems like forever, I’m feeling like myself again. The kids brought home a variety of germs and we’ve been under siege for at the last three weeks. We should all be well and ready for the holidays.

In the meantime, a few interesting things have been added to my “paranormal calendar.” I’ve been asked to investigate a private residence up toward the Albany area. It’s a bit of a drive but should be a fascinating case. The reported activity has gone on for a number of years and includes knocks, objects being moved and drawers opening. Those outside  the family have witnessed this as well. The homeowners are hoping that I can give them more insight into the “why” of the activity and perhaps focus on who it might be. Since we’re into the holiday season and the lovely winter weather in upstate NY, I’ll most likely schedule the investigation for early spring. That also gives me time to research the property and interview any witnesses prior to going in. As we get closer to the date, I’ll fill you in on the equipment I’m bringing and how background research is done.

The next event on the ghostly horizon is scheduled for Monday, March 11th. For those of you who are local, I will be speaking at the Paranormal Meetup at the I-84 Diner in Fishkill, NY.  The meetup is from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. I will be speaking about my background and experiences with the paranormal. If you’d like to attend, please sign up for the event on the Ghost Magnets with a Twist Facebook page. If you don’t have Facebook, feel free to contact me and I can add your name to the list (they like to have a headcount for seating). I will also have a table with my books for sale.

For now, stay spooky!

Shifting to Black… the latest!

Good morning, all! Things have been busy here… and the reviews of Shifting to Black (the sequel to my first book, A Step Into Darkness) are rolling in. It’s getting very nice comments (and stars) on Amazon and the first “official” review just came across my desk. Amiee Ann, book blogger at Red Headed Book Lover, posted her review this morning.  You can check it out here.

More on the paranormal coming soon. I hope you enjoy the review (and continue on to get a copy of the book for yourself!). Also…a quick reminder for those of you who already have my books in your hands…please leave a short review – one line is fine – on Amazon. These remarks mean a lot to authors and also help other readers find the books more easily due to Amazon’s algorithms. Thank you!!

I’m thinking my next blog post will be on communication with the dead… Thoughts?

…drum roll, please…

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that Shifting to Black, the sequel to A Step Into Darkness, has just gone live on Amazon!!

I will be adding a link to buy it on my page shortly, but in the meantime, feel free to jump on over to Amazon and grab one there. 🙂

Also, if you do pick up any of my ghostly thrillers, please leave a review. Most people don’t realize how much the reviews matter. Amazon uses a number of algorithms and the number of reviews weigh heavily on where your book gets seen. Even a one liner of, “I liked it,” or, “It wasn’t my style,” is welcome and appreciated.

OMG… my book is LIVE! (I’m just as excited as I was for the first one!)

Stay spooky!!

Shifting to Black is nearly here!

Things are moving quickly now. I will have the proof copy of Shifting to Black in my hot little hands on Tuesday. A proofread, any final-final tweaks…and it’ll be up for sale on Amazon! I’ll let you all know when it launches and will add a link here, as well.

Keep watching!

Shifting to Black…the next phase

The cover design contest launched this afternoon for Shifting to Black and, I’m excited to say, submissions are already rolling in! In four days the finalists will be set and then,… BOOYAH, a winner.  🙂

In the meantime, I thought I would share with you the blurb for the book as it stands now… let me know what you think!

New Castle Asylum. Abandoned. Renovated into a small apartment complex called Forest View. Joe Paine, caretaker and manager, begins to use the Ouija board he found on the site. He questions his sanity as something named “Black” starts to talk to him during these sessions.

Out of the Dark Paranormal, a ghost hunting team, has been called in to investigate the Jack Barnes house, site of a brutal murder. The investigation unfolds in front of Amanda, Dom and Brian as they find evidence from Barnes’ last investigation…at New Castle Asylum. The team knows what their next step must be:  the asylum. Or whatever stands in its place. After contacting Paine, the team finds itself in the grips of something darker than they’ve ever dealt with before. Will they survive?

I’ll keep you posted on Shifting to Black!

Stay spooky,

A bump in the night? More like a knock…

Hey, all. Thought I’d give a quick paranormal post on recent activity at home…some interesting things making me scratch my head and ponder.

Last week, while I was reading in bed, there were two raps on the window behind my head. I nearly jumped out of my skin (I tend to get really absorbed in good books). There is no way to reach my window without a ladder and I sat for a few minutes knowing what I heard and quite startled. The paranormal investigator in me checked with my kids to see if anything they were doing could have mimicked the sound. They were all in their beds, nowhere near anything that could’ve made the sound. I walked through the house and nothing could recreate the sound. It was a definite knock, knuckles on glass. Twice.

Last night, another knock. This time it was at the back door. I was in my basement getting the laundry and chatting with my daughter. Her friend had just left and there were a few knocks on the door. We both thought her friend had returned and she opened the door. Nothing. No one was there.

It seems that something is definitely trying to get my attention. Thoughts?

Here we go!!

As beta reader comments come in, the final tweaks to Shifting to Black are being completed. Cover design should be wrapped up in the next week and a half and… AND… Shifting to Black should be available BEFORE Halloween!! I’m hoping you’re all as excited as I am. 🙂  Book 3, still untitled, is moving along as well.

Stay tuned… I’ll post as each step wraps up!

The latest on… A Step Into Darkness – 5 Stars!!

Good morning!

It’s been incredibly busy here lately…every free minute I’ve been immersed in the “final” (hopefully) edits of Shifting to Black. It’s really taking shape and we’re heading to a release in the not too distant future. In the meantime, however, I wanted to share with you the latest on A Step Into Darkness.

This morning, the newest review went live on It is a glowing discussion of my book, and if you’d like to see what people are saying (!!), you can reach the review directly at:

As soon as I wrap up and finalize Shifting to Black, I’ll let you know where it is in the process…from cover design to “get your copy now!” In between, I’ll be posting more on the paranormal, ghost hunting and spooky experiences.

Keeping it Ghosty,

Let’s get this ball rolling!

Well, we’re at the end of a crazy summer. I know I had mentioned in a previous post that I would be slowing down, relaxing and getting back into a regular routine, but you know how that goes…I’m nearly there, but thought a quick update was in order!

Book 2, Shifting to Black, has gone through some great edits and is nearly ready for the next step. I’m working on (and hoping for) a mid-October release date.

As for A Step Into Darkness, I have it on good authority that it will be reviewed on quite the book blogger site on September 13th. 🙂  As soon as I have the link, you will, too! So excited!

And,…regarding ghostly activity here…last Saturday night I heard my name called. I had put my son to bed and stepped into the bathroom. When I walked back into the hallway, I distinctly heard a man’s voice say, “Barb.” It was louder than a whisper, but not quite a conversational tone. There was no man in the house. Still pondering this.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I will be back soon. Stay spooky!
